Philip Wexler

National Library of Medicine

Philip Wexler has worked at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) since 1978, most of that time with the Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program.  He has been involved with the TOXNET system since its inception.  He coordinates the World Library of Toxicology, Chemical Safety, and Environmental Health project, is file manager for the Integrated Risk Information System, International Toxicity Estimates for Risk, and Drugs and Lactation databases, and is spearheading the effort to revise NLM’s online toxicology tutorial, ToxLearn.  He teaches and lectures frequently on toxicology information domestically and abroad, and has published widely on the topic.  Mr. Wexler is the Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Toxicology, 2nd edition (Oxford. Elsevier Science. 2005) and is currently at work on the 4th edition of Information Resources in Toxicology, also to be published by Elsevier.  He serves as Web Alert Editor for the journal, Toxicology, is a trustee of the Toxicology Education Foundation, and is chair of the U.S. Society of Toxicology’s World Wide Web Advisory Committee.
