Instructions for Testing Webcast for the VCCEP Peer Consultation Meeting on Xylenes

System Test

Webcast registration is a two-step process. First, we test your system's ability to view webcast presentations by opening a sample presentation in your browser. Once you confirm that you are able to view the presentation, you will be taken to the registration page to submit a registration form. It is HIGHLY recommended that you do not skip the test viewing of the sample presentation to make sure that you have the proper software (DirectX drivers and Microsoft Updates to Windows Media Player 9.0, WMP), and that WMP is configured properly. To access the presentation, follow these steps:

  • Open Internet Explorer and go to the METS Media Server website where you will be presented with a view of the Mediasite presentation catalog.
  • On the right-hand side of the page, pick any of the presentations listed.
  • Start one of the presentations by clicking the blue link starting with "View:" header. Any of the METS Center "PerForum" sessions are a good choice.

The Mediasite player window will open immediately. The player may take some time to initialize before the presentation begins. After the initialization period, the video should be visible in the left window and presentation slides in the right window. You should be able to see and hear the presenter, and the presentation slides should advance as the speaker progresses.

If you are able to properly view the demonstration webcast, continue to the next step to register.

Troubleshooting the Player

The webcast player works on most machines. However, some have experienced difficulties with the player, and it is possible that it will not work on your machine. If you are unable to view the demonstration webcast, read the following short notes on using the player to help identify the problem:

  • IT IS ESSENTIAL for Windows to be running Windows Media Player version 9.0 (or a later version), and any Video Codec driver updates be installed. These updates take time and may require computer restarts.
  • Install the latest Windows updates to DirectX.
  • A screen resolution of 800 X 600 will give you a full screen viewer display.
  • Increasing the screen resolution to 1024 X 768 at 32-bit color will give a clearer image, BUT the overall viewer will display at 2/3 screen size, NO LARGER.
  • Turn up sound for Wave file playback (Open Window’s Volume Control, Wave AND Master Volume Controls up full).
  • Please be patient and don't over use MOUSE CLICKING while viewer is opening and initializing.
  • Macintosh users also need Windows Media Player 9.0 for Mac, and also should contact the NKU METS Center to let the webcasters know to enable Macintosh-compatible data streaming. See: http://www.usemets.org

If you are unable to view one of the demonstration webcasts after following these short instructions, you may consult the full instructions to help troubleshoot the problem. If you are still unable to resolve the problem and view the test webcast, please consider attending the meeting in person.
