Framework for Use of Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships (QSAR) for Genotoxicity and Carcinogenicity

What:     Written Peer Consultation on a Framework for Use of Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships (QSAR) for Genotoxicity and Carcinogenicity

A panel of expert scientists conducted a written peer consultation to consider a draft weight of evidence framework developed by the Existing Substances Division of Health Canada for evaluating genotoxicity and carcinogenicity potential from empirical data and (Q)SAR models. This draft framework was proposed as one element of Health Canada's approach to categorization and screening of substances on the Domestic Substances List (DSL) under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. The panel also provided input as a basis to refine the framework.

Note that the framework the panel discussed was not a finished product. It was a proposal being presented at that time to access input from leading experts on how it might be further developed as one element of an approach to efficiently set priorities on the basis of hazard for large numbers of chemicals. The framework and background materials were prepared by Health Canada.

The peer consultation was conducted through submission of written comments from the panel.
